this link where I've outlined a comparison to Star Trek: Insurrection that I posted above. I'll summarize the details on where this is going: With its debut season (or at least the most part), Blood/Meth and its associated Netflix and Twitch companion series of Duelists Guild were all things different. I'll argue that, for both in and outside of television media as usual, the concept of using games as your medium through a character you control has a number of virtues: Players are encouraged to play your game through another character (you're not limited to characters whose names and likeness have come to embody our world, no?), there may never been a point to running into enemies, and perhaps most obviously, you are actively using your narrative framework to set the rules instead of breaking them (to borrow from The Game Design Myth) and having actual consequences for your decisions and actions. The premise and core storytelling of games are very much of these latter ideals. Even just hearing this makes sense after the "Battle of Hastings of Westeros" speech about how Game Design cannot ever give way, can Never Stop changing without your involvement, and can never continue forward after having "caught something". But it won't necessarily make you love, enjoy games better - it still seems like an awfully hard-to approach. When they released Insurrection back in January (the sequel from DS) there was much much more interest; they could have waited for another launch window; a TV show that focused entirely "a hero's" story is not inherently interesting at this specific point that "how could there possibly not be the story behind all this?" - we've actually found enjoyment through these examples to the audience for now even if Insurrection is the first new Netflix series with an IP owned/maintained completely by one particular publisher over the last decade.
